What if my bike doesn't have aero bars?

Even if you’re using an $80 Walmart bike, you will benefit from adding clip-on aerobars. A pair of clip-on aerobars will make the total frontal area of your bike smaller and you’ll fight the wind much less while riding.
In other words: free speed!
The type of aerobars we like to recommend have a bend upward so your arms don’t have to bend down to reach them. Bending down creates tension in the upper body, tiring you out and leading to cramping once you get on the run. The inward bend of these types of aerobars will also allow your hands to sit in a neutral position instead of having to turn your palms upward to hold the bars firmly.
When you first get a set of aerobars, even if you’ve been professionally fit on your bike, don’t expect it to feel good. The triathlon aero position is quite unnatural and extreme, so it always takes practice to get your body comfortable in the position.
HOW DO I START USING AEROBARS TO GET USED TO THEM?
Start by holding the aero position just one or two minutes at a time, then gradually build up. As long as your bike position is good, you’ll be as comfortable in the aero position as you are in the regular riding position within a few months.
WHERE CAN I BUY AEROBARS?
You can purchase an affordable pair of aerobars on Amazon, or you can find them at a local bike shop.
