Which heart rate monitor do you recommend?

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
Tracking your heart rate is a critical part of endurance training. You'll need a sports watch and a heart rate strap (either a chest strap or an upper-arm strap).
Using your watch without a separate HR strap means you'll get very inaccurate readings due to jostling around on your arm when you exercise.
The chest strap fits securely on your upper torso. For men, the strap is placed right under the pecs.
For women, the chest strap is placed right underneath the band of your sports bra. However, that's not a comfortable experience for everyone depending on their body shape, so in that case an upper-arm strap would be our recommendation.
