How long is my baseline training?

Baseline training is the period of time when you develop a solid base of fitness and endurance, on top of which we will begin to layer your race-specific training at the appropriate time.
The length of your baseline training period will depend on when you have races set in your schedule. There is no set amount of time an athlete will be in Baseline training; it all depends what time of the year it is, and when the date(s) of your races are. If you want to know when your Baseline training period will end, you just have to look at your schedule.
Baseline will end, and your race specific training will begin at the appropriate time depending on when your race/races is. We don't ever start race-specific training too early, and it depends on the length of your race. You need a longer race-specific training period for longer distance races.
For example, an IRONMAN training plan is 26 weeks long, where a Sprint triathlon plan is 8 weeks long.
If we started athletes too early, they would peak well before their events and would likely have a bad result due to being over-trained.
For athletes who train year-round, Baseline will comprise a large portion of the year.
If you look at this example of a Training Plan calendar in the screenshot below (this is the view you would see if you login via the web on mymottiv.com), you can see the athlete's Training Focus is presently Baseline for the current week and the following week. Then, on this calendar, on Monday, July 10, the athlete begins race-specific training for the Vancouver Triathlon.
